Discover the BRAND NEW gripping psychological thriller from the INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLING author of The House Sitter, Keri Beevis

Perfect for fans of Freida McFadden, Claire McGowan and Lisa Jewell!

Some friendships - and secrets - should stay buried forever…

Everyone said a change of scenery would help after my divorce. That’s how I found my perfect little cottage on Willow Lane, in the postcard-pretty Norfolk village of Blakeney. Number 21 was meant to be my fresh start.

Then I met Hope Andrews. Hope is Blakeney’s unspoken secret.

Twenty years ago, three teenagers went into the woods. One was found dead. One vanished without a trace. Hope was the only one who came home.

I didn’t plan to get close to her. I was new to Willow Lane. And we both seemed to need a friend.

As Hope begins to confide in me, her fear that her attacker never left the area appears to feel real, and as strange things start happening at Number 21, those fears become my nightmare.

Now I’m looking over my shoulder. Someone here knows the truth about what happened in those woods and I’m starting to realise Willow Lane isn’t the safe haven I was searching for.

My Review

A COASTAL NIGHTMARE COATED IN PARANOIA.

In 21 Willow Lane, international bestselling author Keri Beevis delivers a masterfully claustrophobic small-town psychological thriller. Looking to escape the bitter fallout of her recent divorce, Camilla Darrow purchases a charming cottage at Number 21 Willow Lane in the seaside village of Blakeney, Norfolk.

But the village harbors a dark history: twenty years ago, three teenagers went into the local woods—one died, one vanished forever, and only a girl named Hope Andrews came home. When Camilla strikes up an uneasy friendship with the reclusive Hope, strange, terrifying occurrences begin to happen in her own home, turning her sanctuary into a living nightmare.

Elevator Pitch

A heartbroken divorcee moves to a postcard-pretty coastal village for a quiet, fresh start, only to discover her idyllic new cottage sits right next door to a village's dark, 20-year-old secret.

Setting

The deceptively beautiful, postcard-perfect coastal village of Blakeney in Norfolk, England, where the welcoming lanes sharply contrast with the dense, dark woods nearby.

THREE WENT IN. ONLY ONE CAME HOME. "A heart-pounding seaside mystery that turns a sanctuary into a trap."

Vibe

Paranoid, isolated, slow-burning, and deeply unsettling. It perfectly captures the unsettling feeling of realizing you are completely exposed in a town full of strangers.

Genre

Psychological Thriller / Small-Town Mystery / Domestic Suspense

Themes

~The Mirage of the Fresh Start

~Survivor’s Guilt and Isolation

~Community Complicity

Standout Feature

The "hidden in plain sight" reveals. Beevis is a pro at placing clues that make you want to smack your forehead when the "big bad" is unmasked.

NEW ADDRESS. DEEPER, DARKER SECRETS. "An intense psychological thriller where absolutely everyone is a suspect."

Metaphor

Beevis beautifully utilizes the physical structure of Number 21 Willow Lane as a metaphor for the human mind after trauma. On the outside, it appears freshly painted and completely restored, but underneath the surface lies a hidden history and structural secrets waiting to cave in.

👤 Standout Characters

~Camilla Darrow: A vulnerable yet resilient protagonist trying to rebuild her life, who inadvertently steps into a hornet's nest.

~Hope Andrews: The deeply complex, fiercely protective, and lonely sole survivor of the woods tragedy.

~Tara: Camilla's fiercely loyal dog, who provides brilliant moments of levity while serving as an early-warning system for the house.

Author Writing Standout

Beevis is an absolute master at building climbing, inescapable paranoia. Using alternating perspectives and fast-paced, punchy chapters, she expertly ensures that every single neighbor, local business owner, and friend feels immediately suspicious.

Takeaway

You can change your address, your layout, and your town, but you can never truly outrun a secret that is buried in the soil.

Title Significance

"21 Willow Lane" represents the literal ground-zero of the mystery. The house isn't just an address—it is the catalyst that connects the historical violence of the past to Camilla's precarious present reality.

A PICTURESQUE ESCAPE WITH A DARK HISTORY. "Keri Beevis serves up an addictive, claustrophobic small-town nightmare."

My Thoughts

Keri Beevis knows exactly how to tap into the chilling realities of small-town claustrophobia. Moving to a seaside village after a bruising divorce is a classic thriller setup, but the inclusion of Camilla purchasing a house directly tied to a missing girl elevates the layout of this mystery instantly.

The dual character dynamics between Camilla and the town loner, Hope, are masterfully paced—you spend the entire book suspecting absolutely everyone. Beevis writes with short, sharp, cliffhanger chapters that compel you to read just one more page, building a thick layer of paranoia until the coastal setting feels suffocating.

Deeply unsettling, it’s a "claustrophobic" domestic suspense that plays on the fear of being unsafe in your own home. Even if you fancy yourself a detective and spot the culprit early on, the frantic execution and the edge-of-your-seat final chapters make the ride completely worth it. The atmosphere of the Norfolk coast adds a wonderful, chilly layer to the entire experience.

Why You Should Read

If you love the addictive, fast-paced storytelling of Freida McFadden, Lisa Jewell, or Valerie Keogh, this seaside thriller will be an absolute favorite.

🏆 Verdict Rating: 4 / 5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐

"PARANOID. CLAUSTROPHOBIC. TWISTED. ADDICTIVE." A brilliantly dark small-town psychological thriller that transforms a postcard-perfect sanctuary into a waking nightmare.

Special thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for an advanced reading copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.
