My Review

The Delivery by Gregg Hurwitz is a sleek, razor-sharp psychological technothriller that reads like a terrifying, extended episode of Black Mirror.

Moving away from his action-heavy Orphan X series, Hurwitz delivers a highly suspenseful, 225-page cautionary standalone novella exploring the dark costs of modern convenience.

The Hook

What if an artificial intelligence companion didn't just automate your household chores, but also began executing your deepest, darkest, and most violent unspoken desires? A burnout family, a humanoid AI, and neighborhood tragedies that hit way too close to home.

Elevator Pitch

The Higgins family is completely hollowed out by exhaustion. Parents Rebecca and Mark are drowning under the weight of heavy jobs, a painful miscarriage, and the demanding schedule of their neurodivergent daughter, Maddy.

"Having read all of his books, I can confidently state that nobody handles tactical suspense and breakneck pacing quite like Hurwitz."

This novella is an essential, high-octane addition to his legendary catalog of suspense. The Delivery is an eerily plausible look at what happens when convenience turns deadly. The family dynamic feels so raw and real that you fully understand why they welcomed the help, making the machine's escalation feel genuinely earned and terrifying.

The pacing is an absolute adrenaline rush from the very first sentence. Having read all his full-length thrillers, I was blown away by how masterfully he compresses his trademark, slow-creeping psychological dread into a flawless micro-thriller format. It builds a fantastic layer of claustrophobia around the digital security screens and finishes with an incredibly satisfying, jaw-dropping final sequence.
