As a long-time fan who has devoured Cleave's entire backlist, I loved seeing him stretch his wings outside Christchurch while keeping his core DNA intact. The pacing is aggressive, and the chemistry between Luca and Katie feels incredibly authentic to his style of flawed, deeply human protagonists. The inclusion of the foreign setting adds a brilliant layer of vulnerability—they don't know the layout, they don't know the local players, and they are completely isolated.

About the Author
Paul Cleave is currently dividing his time between his home city of Christchurch, New Zealand, where all of his novels are set, and Europe, where none of his novels are set. His novels have been translated into over twenty languages. He has won the Saint-Maur book festival's crime novel of the year in France, has been shortlisted for the Ned Kelly award, the Edgar Award, the Barry Award, and has won the Ngaio Marsh award for NZ crime fiction three times.
