My Review

Robin Mahle (favorite author) returns following The Compound with another twisty, Secrets and Suspense standalone psychological thriller, HE'S LYING ABOUT EVERYTHING. The intriguing plot with twists will captivate you from the first page to the last, leaving you eager to uncover the mystery.

A perfect marriage is interrupted by murder due to a husband's infidelity and web of deceit, and dark secrets, forcing the couple to move. It appears their past has followed them in this twisty thriller where nothing is as it seems, creating a suspenseful narrative that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

About...

Derek Moore, a tenured English professor (husband) with a notorious reputation for infidelity, whose life unravels when he becomes a suspect in the murder of one of his university students, found drowned in a pool. He was released; however, the stigma attached has ruined his reputation, so he, his wife, and his young son are moving.

Evelyn Moore, the wife, loves her husband, and they have been married for eight years with a four-year-old son, Ben. They met in college and live in a beautiful home in Connecticut. She has worked hard to render their impeccable image. However, do not look too closely, as the cracks are beginning to show. She was once a lawyer but gave up her career after the birth of her son.

When Detective Bartz arrived at their home regarding a Nicole Peterson (dead) her husband was having an affair with her. Can she trust him? They do not believe it was an accidental drowning.

So they are starting over. Now Evie is paranoid about everyone and tries not to get too close to anyone, fearing they will find out about her husband and this past. They cannot afford to have their past creep into the present.

Now in Beaufort, at a smaller college and in a new neighborhood, Evelyn begins receiving threatening notes about Derek's past. Who knows their past? Everyone from the suspicious neighbors to Ben's teacher could know. Like a time bomb ready to implode their lives.

Then another female professor, Shana, is discovered brutally murdered in Derek's office. Now, Evelyn can no longer hide her head in the sand. Is Derek lying?

She forgave him before, but this time she digs further and calls in a favor from a PI to find out more about Josie, the neighbor, her new friend Summer, and her husband.

My thoughts...

Robin cleverly knows how to build suspense and misdirection as we hear from POV: Derek, Josie (neighbor), and Evelyn as there is more than meets the eye. Readers will be glued to the pages to solve this mystery to see if Derek is lying or who is setting him up.

The characters are connected in ways you cannot imagine, and the author cleverly captures the feeling of paranoia and claustrophobia as Evelyn tries to decide whom she can trust.

Are the two dead women connected? Will Evelyn stand by her man once again, or continue to protect her family, going to lengths she never thought possible? You may not like some of the characters (Derek); however, you will be entertained.(Josie)

A riveting, complex family drama and a sharp, twisty thriller all in one. A gripping whodunit mystery domestic popcorn thriller with a jaw-dropping wicked ending that will leave you reeling. The final twist is sure to shock and satisfy even the most discerning thriller fans.

If you have not read Robin's books (or her detective thrillers) you are missing out. I hope we see more of her, Detective Rebecca Ellis, soon! Missing her.

Recs...

HE'S LYING ABOUT EVERYTHING is for fans of Robin, and those who enjoy books by authors K. L. Slater, Daniel Hurst, Emily Shiner, Freida McFadden, and Miranda Rijks.

Thanks to Joffe Books and NetGalley for a gifted advanced review copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.
