From New York Times bestselling author and Emmy Award-winner Matt Goldman, danger runs rampant in the idyllic town of Riverwood.
Riverwood is a peaceful small town in rural Minnesota with no shortage of creeks, bluffs, and bars. Despite policing a larger population of deer than people, Police Chief Zoey Jensen has her hands full.
A fishing guide has been found floating on the Root River at dawn, murdered in his boat. While many people had reasons to want Wags Becker dead, he had recently turned his life around, leaving Zoey without an immediate suspect. Zoey’s investigation is further complicated by the looming presence of her menacing ex-husband, who followed her to southeast Minnesota after his release from jail, and who had recently become very friendly with the murder victim.
Meanwhile, police officer Penn Hedberg is called to the home of Ash Solbakken to investigate the theft of a gold brick worth more than a million dollars. As more home break ins are reported, and the murder investigation heats up, Penn powers through despite the fact that his father’s death is imminent. Zoey feels pushed to her limits as well, and it doesn’t help that her current boyfriend keeps mysteriously canceling their plans.
Zoey believes that all this chaos must be related. But how? She’ll need all her wits about her to find out before the murderer strikes again.
