A gritty, feminist gold-rush survival story from a master suspense storyteller. A huge fan of the author, Mahle infuses a historical western with the breathless pacing and tension of a psychological thriller. True worth isn't mined from the hills; it's forged by the women who survive them!
Mahle transitions beautifully into historical fiction here. Caroline and Sarah’s dynamic anchors the book perfectly, making the historical backdrop feel deeply personal. The balance between the male allies and the main female leads provides a refreshing take on the standard, hyper-isolated "rugged West" trope, making the community of Panacea feel entirely alive.
A masterclass in historical resilience, Mahle masterfully switches genres to deliver a gritty, high-stakes Western drama where true wealth is found in the unyielding spirit of the women who survive.
